Urad Dal Kachori

Urad Dal Kachori is a crispy and crunchy snack made by deep frying wheat flour dough stuffed with a spicy urad dal filling.


For dough:

  • 1 cup Wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon Oil
  • Salt to taste

For filling:

  • 1/4 cup Urad dal, soaked for 3-4 hours
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 inch Ginger, cut into thick pieces
  • 1 Green chilli
  • 2 pinches Asafetida
  • 1/4 teaspoon Fenugreek powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garam masala
  • 2 teaspoons Fennel powder
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • Oil for frying


  1. Grind urad dal with ginger and green chilly.
  2. Heat oil. Crackle cumin seeds, asafetida, fenugreek powder and all the other spices. Mix well.
  3. Add urad dal mix and roast for 10 minutes. Add salt and mix well.
  4. Knead a dough by combining wheat flour, salt, oil and water. Cover and keep aside for 10 minutes.
  5. Take small portions of the dough, stuff it with urad dal filling and prepare kachoris.
  6. Heat ghee in a pan and deep fry the kachoris till golden brown on both sides.
  7. Serve Urad dal kachori with a curry of your choice.
