Quick and simiple whole green gram curry


  • 1 cup whole moong / whole green gram, soaked in water for an hour
  • 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds, soaked in water for an hour
  • 1 ginger, small piece finely chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon Amchur
  • 1 pinch hing/ Asafoetida
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 2 Green chillies, finely chopped
  • salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing


  1. Pressure cook dal and fenugreek seeds with a cup of water till dal is cooked. Mash and add water.
  2. Add amchur powder, turmeric, hing, red chilli powder, ginger and coriander leaves.
  3. Boil dal. Adjust consistency with water. Adjust taste with salt and amchur.
  4. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve Maghamethi with roti.
