Shingara

Shingara is a tasty Bengali snack with a flaky and crispy crust, stuffed with cauliflower, potato and green peas. It is a great comfort food, especially during the winter season.

Ingredients

For dough

  • 1/2 cup All purpose flour / Maida
  • 1 pinch baking soda
  • 1 drop lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Salt to taste

For Stuffing

  • 1 medium sized potato, cut into bite size pieces
  • 1/2 cup cauliflower florets
  • 1 tablespoon green peas
  • 1 tablespoon peanuts
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon of roasted cumin powder
  • Turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. To make the filling, heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds.
  2. Then add potatoes, cauliflower florets, peas and all other spices and cover and cook.
  3. Once cooked, add peanuts and salt.
  4. Prepare the dough by kneading flour, baking soda, lemon juice, salt, oil and warm water.
  5. Divide the dough into small balls and roll them into a round shape.
  6. Make a cut in the middle and form a triangle shape. Put the stuffing inside and seal the triangles.
  7. Deep fry the shingaras and serve hot.
