Nellikka Uppilittathu

Indian Gooseberries are seasonal healthy fruits. To enjoy their health benefits, we need to store them. Gooseberries in brine is a good way of preserving them. You might find them being sold on beaches of Kozhikode as street food.


  • 8 Gooseberry
  • 2 Green chilly
  • Salt to taste


  1. Prick gooseberries with a fork and rub salt all over them.
  2. Boil 1.5 cup of water in a saucepan and then cool to room temperature
  3. Take gooseberries in a glass bottle and add slit green chillies and salt. Pour boiled and cooled water into it so that the gooseberries are completely immersed.
  4. Serve Nellikka uppilittathu after 2 weeks.
