Sowrai is a very tasty Assamese dish prepared with rice. This is popular as breakfast or mini meal of the Bodo community in Assam.


  • 1 cup Maibra (Sticky rice), washed and soaked for a few hours.
  • 1 tablespoon Oil
  • Few Cardamom (optional)
  • Few Cinnamon pieces (optional)
  • Few Bay leaves (optional)
  • Salt to taste


  1. Heat oil and pan and saute rice.
  2. Add salt, whole spices, water and cook covered till rice is fully done.
  3. Serve Sowrai with fresh cream.
