Kai Pathiri

Thin rice pancakes, a specialty of the Malabar region of Kerala


  • 1 cup Rice powder
  • 1 cup Water
  • 3 Shallots, chopped
  • 1/4 cup Coconut, grated
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil / Ghee


  1. Boil water with salt and add shallots, coconut and rice flour. Mix well and knead a soft dough when cooled.
  2. Make medium size balls, place it on a banana leaf and spread it outwards with your fingers.
  3. Heat a pan and cook the dough on both sides. Apply ghee or oil while cooking.
  4. Serve Kai pathiri with a curry of your choice.
