Aval Payasam

Milk based sweet dish made from aval or poha


  • 1 cup Aval/Poha
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 3/4 cup Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee
  • Cashews, to garnish
  • Raisins, to garnish


  1. Ghee roast cashews and rasins till brown. Keep aside.
  2. Ghee roast aval till brown. Add milk and water. Bring to boil. Stir frequently. Cook till volume reduces to 3/4th.
  3. Add sugar. Cook till sugar is dissolved and payasam is thick.
  4. Garnish with cashews and rasins. Serve Aval Payasam hot.
