Vishu Katta

A traditional Kerala breakfast prepared with rice during Vishu


  • 1 cup Raw rice
  • 2 cups thick Coconut milk
  • 2 cups thin Coconut milk
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin powder
  • Salt to taste


  1. Pressure cook rice with thin coconut milk, water, cumin powder and salt.
  2. Once cooked, add thick coconut milk and stir till the mixture thickens.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a plate and level with a spoon. Cut into desired shapes.
  4. Serve Vishu katta with Jaggery syrup.
