Paal kanji

Rice gruel made with coconut milk


  • 1/2 cup Red parboiled rice/Matta Rice
  • 4 cups Water
  • 1/2 cup Freshly grated coconut
  • 1 1/2 cups Thick coconut milk
  • Salt to taste


  1. Pressure cook rice with water for 3 whistles.
  2. Once cooked, add salt, coconut and coconut milk and boil on medium low heat. Keep stirring till it is reduced to a porridge consistency.
  3. Serve Paal kanji hot or warm.
