Bokful Bhaja

Bokful Bhaja is a delicious, traditional Bengali dish prepared with the heron flower. It is a nutritious dish often served with dal rice or ghee rice.


  • 8 raw bokful / heron flowers
  • 4 tablespoons gram flour
  • 1 tablespoon corn flour
  • 2 tablespoons rice flour
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 3/4 turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion seeds
  • 3/4 red chili powder
  • 1 pinch asafetida
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt to taste


  1. Prepare a thick batter by mixing all ingredients with water.
  2. Dip flower in the batter and deep fry until golden.
  3. Serve Bokful Bhaja hot with steamed rice and dal.
