Bihari Kadhi

Besan badi/ dumplings are added to the curd based gravy

Ingredients

For Badi

  • 1/2 cup Besan
  • 2 Green Chilly
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida
  • 1 pinch Baking soda
  • Salt-to taste
  • Oil- For Deep Frying

For Kadhi

  • 2 teaspoons Besan
  • 1 cup Curd/ Yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 3 Red Chillies
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida
  • 1 tablespoon Chopped Ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 Curry Leaves, sprig
  • Salt-to taste

Instructions

  1. Mix besan with green chilli, asafoetida, baking soda and salt into thick batter.
  2. Deep fry dumplings of batter till golden on all sides. Keep aside.
  3. Whisk besan with curd and 2 cups of water. Add turmeric powder and salt.
  4. Bring to boil. Put badis and simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Heat oil. Splutter mustard seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves, chopped ginger and red chillies. Add this to boiling mixture.
  6. Enjoy rice with hot Bihari Kadhi
