Gobi Kofte

Spicy balls made from cabbage

Ingredients

For Kofta

  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 2 chopped green chilies
  • 1 teaspoon mango powder / amchur
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seed
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seed / jeera
  • 4 tablespoons gram flour / besan
  • 250 gm cabbage, grated

For Curry / Gravy

  • 6 tablespoons tomato puree
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons yogurt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 4 tablespoons fried onion
  • 4 tablespoons oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Mix all kofta ingredients in a bowl. Makes small lemon shaped balls.
  2. Deep fry over medium heat till uniformly brown. Drain excess oil. Keep aside.
  3. Heat oil. Roast ginger garlic.
  4. Add remaining gravy ingredients. Mix well. Cook covered for 10 minutes.
  5. Add cup of water. Bring to boil and simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  6. To serve kofta, place fried balls in bowl and pour hot gravy.
  7. Serve gobi kofte with hot rice or roti.
