Chanar Dalna

Chanar Dalna is a Bengali style cottage cheese curry cooked in a lightly spiced delicious gravy. It can be served with plain rice.

Ingredients

For Gravy

  • 2 tomatoes grated
  • 1 cup potato, cubed
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder(cinnamon powder, green cardamom powder)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying+Gravy

For paneer balls

  • 2 cups homemade cottage cheese/paneer, made from 1.5 litre milk and 1 lemon
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1 pinch turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons maida/flour
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare paneer balls by mixing all the ingredients of paneer balls.
  2. Fry cheese balls until light brown. Keep aside.
  3. Fry potato cubes with little salt and turmeric powder and keep aside.
  4. In the rest of the oil, add bay leaf, grated ginger, tomato and dry masala and sauté
  5. Now add water and allow it to boil.
  6. Add fried potato and paneer balls.
  7. Serve Chanar dalna with plain rice.
