Papdi Lilva no pulav

Papdi lilva no pulav is simple spiced rice preparation using seasonal field beans. This is common dinner recipe during winters in Gujarati kitchen.


  • 1 1/2 cups rice, washed
  • 1 cup papdi lilva / fresh field beans, only beans
  • 1 cup chopped carrots
  • 1/2 tablespoon green garlic / lilva lasan, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1 cinnamon stick, inch long
  • 2 cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon jeera / cumin seeds
  • Salt
  • Oil
  • Cashew nuts, few


  1. Heat oil. Splutter cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, cashew nuts and cloves.
  2. Add papdi liva, green garlic and carrots. Stir fry.
  3. Add turmeric powder and salt.
  4. Add washed rice. Mix well.
  5. Add sufficient water and pressure cook all ingredients for 2 whistles.
  6. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  7. Serve papdi lilva no pulav with curd.
